There are plenty of ways for youngsters living in Hawthorne real estate to get involved in their local community, and one event that’s returning for another year is Shake Fest.
Running from 17-18 October, the festival celebrates everything that’s great about Shakespeare – and secondary school students are encouraged to get involved.
If you’re in grades 8 to 12 then this could be the ideal opportunity to learn more about the iconic playwright, while also getting the chance to meet like-minded people.
Shake Fest brings together various art forms – such as dance, music, design and film – to express all that is great about the work of the Bard.
Finalists from the state will be given the opportunity to perform on stage at the Powerhouse Theatre where they can compete to claim a spot in the top 30.
Successful groups will then be offered the chance to create a full Shakespearean production, which will also go on show at the Brisbane venue.
Last year’s festival proved a real hit, with more than 5,500 people turning up from across Queensland. The 2014 version is expected to be bigger and better, so make sure you don’t miss out.
