You lucky ones who live in Bulimba real estate and catch public transport are now going to notice a bit of extra cash in your pockets. This is on the back of the Queensland Government announcing price reductions for all Queensland public transport. The reduction of 5 per cent will see someone who catches a two-zone trip, such as the one from Oxford Street to the CBD, saving $83.16 a year.
The price drop comes from the abandoned carbon tax, which left $30million to be re-invested. Queensland Premier, Campbell Newman, was excited about the prospect of more people using public transport and families "paying less for public transport giving them more money in their pocket to spend on what really matters".
Transport and Main Roads Minister, Scott Emerson claimed that with no planned increase for next year, passengers didn't have to worry about facing 52 per cent fare rises in a short three-year period again. He also said that with 3000 added bus and train services a week, Queensland will continue to have the most reliable metro rail network in the country.
