More than 7,000 first-time buyers in Queensland have used the Great Start Grant to get on the property ladder since the program was launched two years ago.
According to Queensland Treasurer Tim Nicholls, the $15,000 grants for first-time buyers building new homes have been a welcome shot in the arm for the state’s housing construction industry, and nearly half of the grants have been awarded to buyers in the greater Brisbane area.
“It has been an important ingredient in getting first home buyers into the housing market, and because it is not time limited first homebuyers can plan and save knowing the grant is not about to expire,” said Warwick Temby of the Housing Industry Association.
He added: “It can also remove the need for costly mortgage insurance for some homebuyers, making it a doubly worthwhile contribution to their purchase.”
